Work from home

Work from home is a concept which I never believed in, It was an emergency to be used when the world was crashing down, and I had to work to save the world. It has been quite a few times, but never more than a day. What I saved in the name of the world is something I am still wondering.

Lockdown announced by the Indian Government did bring in that mood where you had to work to earn a salary as well as help a few to earn as well. It was meant for a duration of 1 month which seemed small enough. I was always cribbing about not getting enough time to think about myself and my personal plans and this seemed like a godsend.

The first day was getting into meetings early in the morning (somewhere in the mind was the understanding that everything at home was built for work from home). The first realisation came that the laptop charger was missing and the laptop was draining out from last day work. Then started the manhunt to find something that can fit the socket and deliver the juice to run the frugal power guzzler. Then came the surprise of the ventilation. To avoid the noise if you lock the doors the temperature climbed exponentially from 8.00 AM to unbearable heat by 12.00 noon. There you were sitting almost bare bodied and drinking water at every break and sweating as if my skin was a fishing net and water was oozing out of every pore. If you turned on the fan it made a lot of noise which my Skype promptly reported as "excessive noise pick up" but the room became like a sauna with hot air circulating and no relief.

I will not go into what problems I was solving in the meetings, but biggest challenge was the constant issue of whether people heard what I said or I heard others said.

Will not go into the innumerable memes and jokes on the wfh where the only constant thing was "Hello do you hear me ?" " I lost you there can you repeat ?" And some sending messages that I was singing ( which was not the case I can assure you, otherwise the association would have thrown me out).

One good thing about these meetings in the sauna was you wanted to finish as soon as possible and get some fresh air. The other good thing was whenever I took a break I would play with Kali and Maya and they got used to one or the other rushing out from their room and petting them and talking or playing with them briefly. If they charged their fee for the entertainment I would be broke by now. PS: Kali our pet dog and Maya is our pet cat but they seem to think they are sisters from a previous birth united together in this lifetime and we are the servants who are provided to take care of their necessities.

Just sitting at home can do wonders to your brain. It went to hyperdrive planning lot of things but nothing came out of it. It was like the fan on high speed but no air worth its effort.

Have been thinking of getting into a fitness regimen during the entire lockdown time... still

trying even after lockdown 4.0 is announced.

Working from home is a continuous war, fighting oppressive heat, The noise from the street , neighbours and the Internet which is hellbent on giving you an adventure of lifetime. It starts in the early morning where it gives a semblence of working and later trickles down to bits moving like dew drops in the arid region in the morning. One bit here and one bit there each one making its difference in the landscape of the screen.

The voice is even better, you give your most eloquent impromptu speech of your lifetime till then and minutes later you hear that people on the other end asking you to repeat as the audio was missed out.

And in between every meeting you walk out like a warrior who has won a war only to comeback 5 minutes later to start another one starting with " Hello can you hear me ? " Can you see my screen ?

To add to the fun, I have kali who likes to be sleeping in the cave and watching if I am still there every few minutes and Maya who used to invade the cave to walk on the keyboard or tear my notes or play with my pen as if it is a mouse.

the only good thing to come out of this Work From Home experience was this blog site. :)
